After all the speeches and festivities are through, Dom goes defeated back to his hotel room. He is surprisingly sober for his last day on Earth. When he steps inside, she’s already waiting for him. Her black eyes emotionless and her smile the epitome of evil. She enjoys her duty. He would almost think her beautiful if he didn’t know what she was.
Dark hair culls wildly around her head and her skin, the colour of deep ebony, is crackling with untold energy.
She speaks. “He chose her again.” He can do nothing but nod.
“You didn’t seem to try hard enough.”
“I did.” He protests. But what she says is true. Near the end, Dom just wanted him to be happy.
“You can’t lie to me as easily as you do to yourself.” She touches his head and it feels to him like thousands of scorpions invading his scalp. He closes his eyes and she speaks again.
“You know you have to look at me.”
He does and he wishes he didn’t have to. Her skin is cracked and redblack like lava. Then she opens her mouth and beyond rows and rows of sharp teeth, lies Hell itself. There is no fire, no brimstone, no eternal pain and suffering. There is only a deep and endless void. Darkness that consumes and conquers. And Dom is terrified to the point of complete stillness. His only emotion--fear.
He feels black to his very core. His heart is enveloped in it and he chokes on his soul as it escapes with trepidation out of this mouth and in a grey smoky whirl.
There is a knock at the door and his soul slams back inside with such force that he falls back on the bed….
