Anyone read this series before? I must say this is an EPIC EPIC series. Read the first two book within a week. It's a fantasy/adventure genre with gay romance in it (though I do warn you it is not romance focused; it just has the elements of gay romance in it ( Read more... )

I have read the 5 books and I recommend you read them, you will not regret it. I know you have doubts, but if I tell you something I would ruin the excitement of reading the story of these two. And if you can also read Glimpses, one story is how the parents of Alec meet.

Hmm what concerns me is book 4 and that there may be rape involve since they get sold into slavery. I don't want anything like that to spoil such a sweet relationship between Alec and Seregil so I'm wary to read book 4. Does anything happen such as that in book 4?

They go through a bad time but there is no rape.

tbh, book 3 was pretty boring, but if you like bekah, it's a good book for her.

if you ask me, book 4 onwards isn't worth it.

seregil and alec spend most of book 4 being separated and angsty and hurt and there's not even enough comfort to make up for the hurt. (there's definitely rape-vibes in book 4. no outright rape, but there's a lot of hazy dubcon-slavery thing going on.)

i would tell you about book 5, but i can barely remember anything about it.

glimpses sounds like a neat idea, until you realize that you've just paid a hefty price for a thin book filled with mediocre porn.

YMMV, though. if you can find previews online and like them, then go for it.

I was 10% into book 3 and I dropped it. It got pretty boring (Partially because of the fact that she include too many names that were way too hard to pronounce and remember). I may pick up this series later. Skimming through book 4 gave me the same vibe as well and from the reviews I don't even get to see Alec and Seregil being together for like 70% of the book (which is absolutely bullcrap ( ... )

all that political stuff is interesting in a way, i guess, but it would only work if that was the main focus of the story, which it isn't. by the end of book 5, it was built up so much that i'm not even sure how she's going to juggle keeping seregil/alec in the limelight and making the political angle work.

i agree that the reunion in book 2 was great. book 4 pales in comparison to 2, partly because even when reunited, there was something else that had alec's attention.

ngl, i got glimpses for their first night too, but the scenes feel so abrupt. like in the beginning of the series, alec is completely weirded out by the idea of two men having sex. there was no smooth transition from uncomfortable to comfortable.

the first two were fantastic! i reread them all the time :D

I found a version of Glimpses with illustrations included. They are probably taken from yaoi/bl artists. But they fit well inside.

This is one of my favorite authors. I own all of her books and have read them several times. I would recommend reading them all. She builds a wonderful world and her characters continue to grow with each subsequent book. After the first three books Alec and Seregil are already together so it goes deeper into their relationship. In the small book Glimpses it also has some short back stories in Seregil's past and his first time with Alec. You may also look at the Lord of the white Hell books by Ginn Hale, and Counterpoint by Rachel Haimowitz.
