Bigotry Sadly Still Alive In London Pub

Jun 05, 2010 23:35

The LGBT Labour members were refused service at The Greencoat Boy  Pub (Punch Tavern group) in Westminster London UK, despite having booked in advance.  The 100 members where told that the manager would have refused the booking if he'd known they were gay, then refused to serve them! Gah. Every time something like this happens I just want to scream... :(

It's so disheartening that we still have to deal with this shit in 2010 in a supposedly *enlightened* society!

(And seriously? The management of the "The Greencoat Boy Pub (!) of the Punch Tavern Group objects to gay people? *rollseyes*)

If you want to spread this further, so people are warned not to frequent that particular pub or any other venture in the group you could crosspost this to queer_rage, ontd_political and Stonewall UK.

Unfortunately the only way to make this kind of bigotry stop, is to hit them where it hurts them - in the wallet. :(

The good side is that a) This happened to one of the most media aware gay groups, and thus they knew how to get the news out to others, and b) this was the number one trending topic on the UK Twitter stream last night, and all the comments that I read before going to sleep were supportive of the LGBT people involved!

Have written on the Stonewall UK facebook wall, a I already belong to that group. Don't know the other two LJ groups, not certain I want to join them simply to post (despite having been on LJ for *years* I still don't know how to do everything).
