You're right, it would be much better if it ended in tragedy. It would be more fitting to classic folklore, too. At the turning point with Mint offered a sacrifice for Arthur's life I was just nooooo my angst my beautiful angst!! But I understand your considerations for why you finished with a happy ending. It's still a great story and I'm recommending it to friends.
Seriously brilliant. I really loved how you worked all the continuity in and gave the entire story such depth. Actually I thought it would turn out that either Kiku had killed Alfred after Arthur or Alfred had committed suicide and Kiku had kept his soul trapped there and made him forget he was dead. Hence freeing Alfred really meant freeing him in the same spiritual sense as Arthur. However that would have been rather harsh and had all these implications of futility and horror undertones so Im so glad you didn't go down that path. The last chapter made me quite literally cry so Im so glad things got much happier in this one
