Well, a tumor isn't supposed to be there in the first place. When one grows, it pushes aside tissue that is supposed to be there. Presumably that tissue re-occupies that space once the tumor is removed (though I grant it might take a while for the displaced tissue to decompress, and some tissue might have been compressed for so long that it will never decompress fully).
Brains are like jello. If something's taken out, it goops back into place.
