It's occurred to me recently that I have no idea what I'm doing with my life. Well. My life after RAGS, anyway. There isn't an area of study that interests me enough to feel like spending so much money on for college. I know, I know, there's so much expectation of going to college and all, but...I'm not really passionate about any particular ( Read more... )

I'm in the same boat. No idea what I want to commit to as a job for the rest of my life. Even if it's not a permanent decision, it's an important one. Especially with factors like the expense of college.

Do you think a teacher might have some sort of quiz or something that would give us a list of possible fields based on our interests? Maybe a list would contain ideas for careers we wouldn't have come up with on our own.

It's sounding like a bunch of us are in that boat. At least I'm not stranded out here alone :)

EW. God, I hated those things at my last school. They came up with some really really bizarre answers. One I took said my top recommended career was "lifeguard", despite things like, oh, my complete aversion to water, and, due to that, the fact that I have no idea how to swim.

I'm more surprised by how many already know what they want to do.

That one sounds goofy, but I'm not sure where else to look.

Shiba-sensei's got some of those assessment things, if you really want to take one. I don't know how accurate they are, but, they can't hurt, right?

Won't you do it out of love?

I mean like, for your possessions, 'cose eventually I'm probably gonna burn those.

Nope. Because if you burn them, I'm going to need money to replace them.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know what they're going to do with their lives at your age, so you're hardly alone, Kuwahara-kun. Some people still won't know 20 years later either. But they do say that college is a good way to try and find out the answer to that, even if you don't know where to start. There's so many choices out there that it's one of the best places to go and look at your options. And if you happen to decide that nothing suits your fancy that you would need college for, well, then you can just quit. But just in case you do, it's still a good starting point.
