My nana used to paint on wood, too! They were panels she made herself, though, or found objects (like the one you found under the staircase, awesome.)

I love the contrast between the angel and demon, and I especially love her wings!

What I found out is that even the Romans painted on wood panels. That to me rocks, because I've gotten this HUGE calling to paint on wood lately, and it's kind of a connection I never knew I had. Hee. Your nana have any art you could show us?

And thanks! I looked at a Fra Angelico painting for help with the wings.
