#3 - sounds thought out, I've never thought about caloric intake of meat, doesn't affect me.
#2 - hm.. whatever... your deal, doesn't affect me.
#1 - I've spent my entire life thinking a certain way about [wo]man's relationship with the world around him/her... and you've obviously developed some sort of opinion on something that conflicts with the aforementioned set of beliefs that I've lived with. Now you're affecting me personally because you're basically telling me that my understanding of the world around me is incorrect or not well thought out. That affects me.
That's my view on it at least. Once you question, inspire the questioning of, one's beliefs, they tend to get very defensive. More often than not, it's because somewhere deep down inside, they realize that their beliefs are shaky at best and that they really don't have enough supporting evidence to successfully complete an arguement

I think Meat is delicious and you are missing out... I kinda know where you are coming from, my sister has been a vegitarion for prolly 7 years cause she has the same views as you. My grandfather has been a vegan as long as I could care to know due to religious beliefs. My uncle has been a vegitarian for a few years due to helth issues and some religious stuff. Me, i like the taste of blood man and animal alike... I dont discriminate...
you know, I got an e-mail from live journal saying that someone commented on my comment and said that My opinion didn't count due purely to aesthetics and it kinda pissed me off and got me thinking... This post is about people's opinions... The subject isn't really important... I think we all need to learn to respect each other's individual opinions a little more whether we agree or not... People develop opinions based on their own experiences and interests... Anyone who can't accept that is a fucktard...
i deleted that post because I agree with you. like i said i have no problem with a persons opinion on the matter..if they wanted to ask me why and hear my opinion they should accept it and not try to change my mind. I'm not lecturing them while they shove a burger in their mouth. If I was, they would have every right to down talk my opinion and lifestyle choices.
I'd say you can chalk it all up to either a guilty conscience or intolerance. It's the same reason that people attack others for being straight-edge, or Christian, or atheist... or holding any number of other beliefs.
Square_S said it all... people feel as if you're attacking their beliefs if you disagree with them. In reality, practicing vegetarianism (or veganism, straight-edge, Christianity, atheism) is in no way necessarily "affecting [him/her] personally." I am a straight-edge Christian, and you're neither... but I don't think I've ever attacked you for the way you live.
It's funny that people will find out you don't eat meat, ask you why, and then try to start an argument with you about it. Meanwhile, had they not asked, you wouldn't have brought it up at all.
exactly, if someone actually CARES enough to ask. then they should be satisfied with my answer. and if they were secure in their beliefs then they wouldn't argue with me and try to convince me otherwise. I actually thought about that earlier after ranting in that entry.
When it comes down to philosophy and lifestyle choice people always want to put in their 2 cents. Any reason you want to give for not eating meat is totally valid. It's your life, and this choice affects ZERO other people directly. (I mean you could get into agricultrual economics etc but that's pushing it). Being that your given reason is that you find meat eating/ slaughter industry to be consistant with animal cruelty are you moving towards veganism? That's a tough lifestyle to adhere to..... I used to date a vegan guy. Benefit: He had to cook at home a lot so I learned some great recipes (sticky rice and mango). Downfall: I went home starving after our dinners at Vegan places. Oh yeah- Weed burger at Paper Moon is supposed to be the greatest veggie beurger ever. More veg friendly places: http://www.vegguide.org/location/view.mhtml?location_id=311&new_query=1
