Yup. That'd be the 80/580. It's funny part of it is 80E and 580W in the same direction. (and just opposite on the other side). We've actually had some nice weather these past couple days so you got lucky!
So you know the area I was staying at? We were at the Courtyard, near a whole bunch of stores/restaurants (a Trader Joe's, a movie theater, various clothing stores) and close to the Bay/80 and 580 freeways.
And as for the weather-coming from NY, anything that doesn't require a coat this time of year is awesome, haha!
Yeah. The freeway thing is weird, but 580W eventually breaks off going to wards Marin, and 80 E continues on up (so somewhat of a NE for a bit) to Sacramento, and eventually towards Reno.
I love the area over there. Of course, I love going to Ikea too, so that helps.
Next time you're over there, check out Tea Cake bakeshop (its bit closer to the movie theater over in the Bay Street shops, near the ColdStone) for yummy cupcakes. We used those as our cake for the wedding. They have a delicious "pink velvet" cupcake.

I didn't even notice the bakery, but I did have Askew for lunch, which was also quite tastey!
I can't wait to get back out there, although I'm not sure when. The Oakland layover is a really senior trip.
