Things actually aren't so bad, and I really appreciate everyone's comments on my last entry--they made me feel a LOT better, and I'll reply when I get another break in my homework ( Read more... )

Yup, because you rock at that. I mean, honestly. I've NEVER seen someone your age with the experience and skill you have in editing. There are kids here who are pretty good at it, but none are at your level. And you're more than two years younger than them. You've got a bright future, hon.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate that.

But to be a realist, there are so many people my age better than me (Hadley to name one), and its a field with an incredible amount of competition. I just worry sometimes because I'm still at a pretty basic level and it's hard to make a living doing that anyway.

Remember something--you're in HIGH SCHOOL. There will be so many opportunities for you to get to a higher level. Sure, there's competition, but how many high schoolers are as dedicated to it already as you are? How many already have experience under their belt? Most people don't even start until they're out of college. Think of the head start you have on them. Of course you don't have enough skills to make a living yet--you're years away from having to make a living on it!

I have faith that you'll make great things of yourself, hon.

Aww...thanks.

That made me feel a lot better. You're partially right, but I still feel like there are a growing number of kids my age who are incredibly experienced with this sort of thing, because it's becoming so commonplace, and many of these kids' parents are professional editors, so they learn it at a young age.

I'm really not looking for sympathy or affirmation, but just saying that I think there's still really intense competition, even at this level.
