Summary: Morgan/Reid, I can't imagine life without your silent bravery

------------------------------------------

On the day that Reid’s mother dies, Morgan watches as nothing falls apart. They pack bags, he offers to go with him, and they fly out to Vegas. Hotch calls to check in while Reid is driving; it’s unusual, because Morgan isn’t a very good passenger, but Reid insisted and his lover didn’t question it. They go to Bennington and Reid speaks to her doctor, signs papers, collects her things. They visit the morgue, and Morgan waits outside when Reid tells him he needs to do this alone. He’s shaking when he comes out, and his lover puts a hand on his back and he seems to draw strength from it.

He calls his father, and there’s a flash of anger and he snaps that they got by fine without his money while she was alive, he doesn’t need it now she’s gone. He powers on, calling the funeral home to organise. He doesn’t stop even back at the hotel, paces the room as he eats the food Morgan has pushed on him, making phone calls and arrangements.

He speaks at her funeral, which Morgan is surprised to see is attended by quite a few, though most probably felt like they lost Diana a long time ago. He reads poetry, his voice steady and strong. He encourages donation to scientific research, and lets people shake his hand and give him their condolences.

When they get back to the hotel a stitch finally, finally comes out, and he seeks out Morgan’s arms, burying himself in his warm chest as the man guides them down to the bed, wrapping them up in the blanket even though they’re both still fully clothed, shielding them in a cocoon of warmth. Reid cries and Morgan kisses the top of his head, and says nothing to discourage or stop the tears, knowing what relief is in them.

Morgan doesn’t tell his lover just how brave he thinks he is; he just strokes a hand along his back and offers him the comfort he needs.
