I am on Twitter and get most of my UK news & politics from there, so I've been aware of peoples' feelings on both sides of the Brexit issue and the new govt. under Theresa May. Never have I seen so much dissatisfaction since the Margaret Thatcher era. One shudders at the thought of what might come. :(
Same here, right wing politics are on the rise, and it's downright scary. Plus, some dumbass of a Bavarian minister had the glorious idea to list people who've been in a psychiatric hospital ... no matter if they've been there for crisis intervention or any other reason. What's next? Having to wear a sign publicly about receiving treatment for mental illnesses?
I recently read Naomi Klein's book "No Is Not Enough - Defeating the New Shock Politics" which is essentially about Trump and how this disaster could happen and the rise of right wing politics world wide. I also bought "Fire and Fury" the other day, but yet have to read it. That there are still people out there supporting this loose cannon of a President makes my head spin.
What you said about forming a list of former psychiatric patients is terrifying. It's like all the horror novels of dystopian societies are coming true. Like you, I am dumbfounded that so many people support this type of shock politics and fascist regimes. Surely they don't want it for themselves. Do they know nothing of history? I just don't understand it!
And the same thing is happening in the province where I live. There will be a June election to select a new Premier and I am afraid that the Liberal incumbent will be swept away by a right-wing Conservative blowhard with zero policies just because people like his bluster. It's Trump all over again, only here in Canada. I can't believe it's happening.
It sure is! I couldn't believe it when I read about it. Like, you know, just because I've spent a total of 17 weeks in a psychiatric and a psychosomatic clinic, it doesn't mean I am a potential danger to society! Fuck's sake. I went there because I was a danger to MY-FUCKING-SELF.
It also doesn't really help to end the stigma surrounding mental health AT ALL, on the contrary.
Yeah, dystopian novels are strangely true these days and I am not only talking about "Big Brother is watching you" ...
