I should be reading during this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

I've been thinking recently about doing a lot of stuff that involves finishing things I started but haven't finished, i.e. W.I.P.'s, organizing my large collection of photos and albums into something that makes sense, clearing out the basement, etc., etc ( Read more... )

I know the feeling re: books one buys but never reads. *feels guilty*

I'm with you. I feel dreadfully guilty about it! Today I read a very small cookbook because I could actually concentrate on it.

I've never been a big collector of books, although you wouldn't think it to see me Tolkien collection. My reading happens in spurts. I will read solidly for days and then not pick up a book for several weeks, sometimes months.

LOL. I have a big Tolkien collection too, but haven't read all the books yet, especially the HOME series!

I've read in spurts as well and have a few books I've started but haven't finished. I also sometimes read several books at one time. It's very frustrating.

Hahahaha, oh my, this - the book hoarding - sounds so familiar! I mean, I have a cazillion books lying about here, some of which I've had for ages, but never actually got around to read. And then, I am in that bookstore, and whooops, another book to bring home. What do you mean you already have so many books?? You can never have too many books, just not enough TIME!

I actually taught myself reading when I was still in kindergarten. Living with your grandparents for two years and not having anyone to play with around will do that. ;)

My current read, amidst the pandemic and because I have ZERO chill, is "The Stand" by Stephen King. It's so freakishly eerie how all of a sudden, the scenario in that book seems ...real. I love my postapocalyptic dystopias!

At times, I also have problems to focus or better, keep my attention up long enough to really be able to read for a while, especially when I am going through another depressive episode.

I have books to read - but am not quite concentrating enough just now for most of them.

I, too, remember sneaking books of my father's to read! And going to the library with him, too.
