Call me callous, but I guess I'm not as freaked out by this as everyone else. Somewhere a scientist is very pleased with themselves, and if I had the same outlook as that, I probably would have been too.
So instead of freaking out that it could happen, I'm more interested in why it happened. How long was he bitten for? Were there multiple bites?

We'd have more of an idea of their hypothesis if we knew more about Basil. Is he a native to this city or is he an outsider like us? He didn't stick his nose into anything, otherwise he would have gotten grabbed with Harry and the others.

That CFP-TCI group called them "parasites", right? And they don't eat people it looks like, and if they did they'd be "predators" anyway. The only thing around for them to really be parasites on is the "Cloverfield" things. So maybe the thing that caused the transformation actually came from them.
