What has science wrought?

May 25, 2009 01:45

Call me callous, but I guess I'm not as freaked out by this as everyone else. Somewhere a scientist is very pleased with themselves, and if I had the same outlook as that, I probably would have been too.

So instead of freaking out that it could happen, I'm more interested in why it happened. How long was he bitten for? Were there multiple bites? ( Read more... )

research, reasons fletcher shouldn't be here, science

Some of us aren't panicking over the fact that it happened and are more concerned with dealing with the immediate problem. The crab bites themselves are problematic here. That's what matters right now and we'll deal with the why later.

I can't help with that. People need to put their expertise where it's most needed, right?

Yes and I'd suggest listening to the birds. I think it might do you some good.

The birds can sing their songs all they like. I can't carry a tune. But there's more to making music than singing.

I want to know the why as well, though I'm more interested in why we've all been brought here; whether it was with the intent to turn us into these creatures, or something different. It'll determine how quickly I kill whoever is holding us captive when I find them.

Just save some for me.

We'd have more of an idea of their hypothesis if we knew more about Basil. Is he a native to this city or is he an outsider like us? He didn't stick his nose into anything, otherwise he would have gotten grabbed with Harry and the others.

I think you'll have to get in line.

That's what pisses me off most, is the lack of information.

If we had all of the information we needed, we'd be on the edge of getting the hell out of here.

Not being swept up in the 'oh the poor man' and sticking to the matter at hand and the information...

I guess you're not all bad.

Well, exactly what is the longest time a person has gone without treatment and not become a monster? Until we can locate more information on poor Mr. Basil, this question might be easier to answer.

For myself, I went a month. It wouldn't be surprising if someone went longer, really.

It is difficult to get caught up in pity for someone I have never seen or heard.

I find myself more fascinated by the similarities between this odd transformation and many kinds of lycanthropy.

[long pause. He's sort of sitting there, trying to decide whether to be affronted by this outlook or not ( ... )

Thanks Dr. Jackson, I'm curious, but I know some of the others are actively studying the crabs, so this should serve for good information for them.

I had a malfunction of one of my pumps, and it dumped water from the fifth floor of my hotel.

You're welcome; glad I could help. I hope it comes in handy.

Aah. [is grinning sympathetically] Hope you got that cleaned up well enough. I noticed more than a few people were kind of ticked off on the network when it happened.

I think one of the things troubling me about all this is the fact that the bite from the crabs didn't turn the man into a crab but into the larger monster. Not that any of this makes sense but that would make a little more.

I was thinking of something...

That CFP-TCI group called them "parasites", right? And they don't eat people it looks like, and if they did they'd be "predators" anyway. The only thing around for them to really be parasites on is the "Cloverfield" things. So maybe the thing that caused the transformation actually came from them.
