I've just spent an hour consoling a child who believes she is a freak of nature because a human told her she was. What bothers me more is I can't promise her that as she gets older, that the prejudice will stop.

All she wanted to do was gift someone with a flower, which she grew in her hand. That's more of a miracle than a threat.

People tend to fear what they don't understand.

As adults we know that, but children only want to please, not frighten or scare them.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully the person will spend some time educating themselves about those who have gifts.

Not alot has changed since I was this girl's age. [optimistic smile] Hopefully she doesn't grow to become bitter at the treatment of our kind and use her abilities for the worse.

The world will always fear us, no matter what we do.

That fear is easier to accept when you're older, but she's only six.

Still it's better to tell her the truth then allowing them to believe anything different. It wont ever stop, and she should be told that.

I did, only she doesn't understand what's going on right now. She's taking it more as a personal rejection.

A flower? That's hardly threatening. If she makes grenades from her hand, then I'd be worried. But that wouldn't make her a freak, it would just make her unusual.
