Character name: Naoto Shirogane
Series:
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4Age: 15
Canon: In the sleepy rural town of Inaba, a series of murders that occur whenever there’s fog is the least its citizens would expect. Souji, a transfer student from the city, is caught up in all of this when he and his classmates discover that the mysterious “Midnight Channel” that only shows on rainy midnights with the TV turned off has a connection with the murders. By entering a TV, he and his friends can try and save any victims before it’s too late.
Naoto is drawn to Inaba by the murders. Sent in by the prefectural police and requiring no pay, this boy detective is an enigma to the main crew at first. He has a polite, wordy way of speaking and is very calm and collected. His detective skills are amplified by his deductive reasoning and ample intelligence, making him a definite asset to the murders’ investigation. He keeps up with this cool-detective attitude to try and imitate characters like Sherlock Holmes, whom he admires, but is never taken as seriously as he would like due to his age. He faces these doubts about himself, however, to help work towards the truth of Inaba’s murders and the Midnight Channel. Naoto still does tend to get easily frazzled by jokes about his height (rather, his lack of it-so far that one of the other characters in the game jokes that you’d think he was an adult except for how short he is), age and any romantic or sexual notions, though; even the best of men still have their flaws, of course.
Sample Post: Hello, Camp Fudai. This is a call for assistance of any sort from me, Detective Shirogane Naoto of the Inaba Police Force, as I have been called here to help work towards the conclusion of the murder of Ms. Elizabeth Sayre’s fiancé. Coming all the way to America for this is, I hope, at least a sign that I am one hundred percent ready to cooperate and help solve this once for all. It does surprise me a little to know, though, that this hasn’t been solved for three years. Any clues, hints or witness reports of the murder would be appreciated, as well as any evidence or an explanation of what motive the killer could have for wanting to kill the victim. I have questioned the… limb deficient ones among you, but they were either unresponsive or extremely unwilling to assist-to the point of aggression, even. The only clue I seem to have found was pinned along with my invitation letter and Camp pamphlet, but I am still unsure of its meaning: “Long, hard and full of seamen.”
Please restrain yourself from laughing, Mr. Gorilla near the tree! This is a serious investigation and this clue would be vital to solving the case, so that sort of behavior is highly inappropriate. Now, let me try to work this out once more. “Seamen” would obviously refer to men of the sea, who travel in boats. Length must be a factor as well. Yes, I have taken a look at the lake that was helpfully described in the pamphlet, Mr. Gorilla, if your vague pointing gesture was to suggest that I investigate in that area. It doesn’t possess great length if I look at it from the surface, but its depths may indeed be able to hold something “long and hard”. A submarine of some sort, perhaps? I may need to investigate that area further now that the possibility of the clue being a submarine has arisen. Thank you for the help, Mr. Gorilla. You have certainly offered the most assistance in this case so far. Would you accompany me to the lake as a helper of sorts?
… I don’t believe this sign had been here the last time I looked here. It does appear rather hastily made as well, but I suppose it fits the “summer camp” image well. Now, then, what could it say? … “Must be at least this tall to ride the submarine”?! I-I don’t believe that being short relevance has any relevance to whether or not you can ride in a submarine! And no, Mr. Gorilla, I am not just saying that because I’m supposedly not tall enough to ride. I-it’s not an amusement park ride, after all. Logically, I would be able to see a sign notifying that you can’t be too tall, because of the possibly cramped interiors of a submarine… Wait, is there still something else on the sign? “P.S. It’s a peni…”
… Ah. Um. “Long, hard and full of seamen.” Um. I. I do suppose that makes sense, b-but…Now I can see why this case hasn’t been solved yet.
