He didn't stop by until later, much later into the shift, not really at the end of beta shift but somewhere between the middle and the end of it. His own time sense wasn't so much affected by his stress; he could still count and measure it to his liking. Yet it was the anchor to the ship's time that weakened. There was no break in the chaos, just one thing after another, crisis and malfunction and interpersonal havoc.

Hunger and a lack of sleep wore at him (more than it should have, he should have been more resilient to it as a Vulcan--), so he had allowed his resolve to falter and asked Nyota if he could use her quarters. It would only be long enough before he fixed the malfunctions--but he couldn't do it without rest. Not efficiently, anyways. It was better just to sleep ( ... )

Much later still her shift finally ended, the replacement Ensign tapping her shoulder gently to rouse her from the bleary-eyed daze she had settled into. Normally Nyota would feel some sort of relief at the end of a double shift, savoring the relaxation that she knew was coming in the comfort of her own room. Now all she felt was exhausted in every way, too tired to even summon enough enthusiasm for the fact she would finally get that shower she'd been waiting all day for ( ... )
