mission totally possible: meet the natives [ALMOST HOME]

Dec 01, 2009 05:13

Although the creatures had retreated with the first light, the four women waited until day had fully broken before they risked moving out of the safe perimeter. Sunlight came just in time, the last of the torches burning itself out as Nyota got stiffly to her feet. With slight hesitation, she moved forward, Leah following after her, phaser held ( Read more... )

Christine was almost crying with relief. She'd tried to keep up a brave front during their journey. But she'd been all too aware that this settlement was their only hope, that if these people had turned out to be hostile or unable to help, if they'd crested the hills only to discover a long-abandoned village, they would certainly die out here. She gave the native a brilliant smile ( ... )

The natives took them to what turned out to be a small but reasonably well-equipped clinic. The doctor there explained - slowly, and with both their community leader and Nyota helping with the words - that they had a small fast-transport vehicle that they used to move patients with serious medical emergencies to the nearest large city. But she was sure if it could handle the thicker hair and feathered skin of these natives, it would get the last few days out of hers ( ... )

Christine and Nyota looked to Leah to describe the damages to the shuttle. "Pretty bad," she replied. "The worst damage was to one of the warp nacelles, and the outer hull was also cracked. It's not spaceworthy as is." She glanced at Nyota as she spoke, wondering how much the aliens would understand ( ... )
