I can't believe I go to school with some of my classmates. This is an institution of higher learning, albeit a crummy junior college. That means spelling is a valuable skill, my friends. And don't instant message me like this

You speak the truth. I consult the dictionary like many consult the bible. I love words and prefer that they be treated with respect. Mistakes happen. I just hate people who don't care to make the effort or never thought it important to learn. Fight the good fight, sister!
Although, I did just use "Skool" in a post, but I used it for humor. I like to think that's okay. (Like having an LJ username that isn't a real word...)
I get headaches reading stuff from people who type lYk3 ThIs!!!!!11 and use all of those "brb" and "roflmfao." Ugh. It makes me wonder if they know English.
My theory: There's got to be a contest out there somewhere to see how badly you can spell a word without actually using any of the letters in said word. There's got to be a way...
And imagine if Eudora Welty or Flannery O'Connor or NOAM CHOMSKY wrote like that! Ahhhh!!!! SCARY THOUGHT!
Perhaps this will become the mode of modern literature. I would say I'm going to do my part, but I don't think it would stick. As a playwright the only people who get to see my spelling choices are the actors, and many actors (at least those who have been in my plays) can barely figure out how to pronounce the REAL words!
Also, the origins of using 3 for e, etc. was in gaming when only numbers and symbols were available. It was an innovative way to communicate in that context but highly unnecessary when you have a full keyboard at your disposal!
