A sad day

It's been kind of a rough month, and I guess bad things come in packages: my father-in-law died this morning. I seldom talk about this kind of thing in my LJ, but I think this merits an exception, because he was a remarkable man, and his life, and accomplishments, were so amazing. He fled from Nazi Germany in 1939 when he was 17 and ended up in
