An unexpected reunion.

It takes an extra few seconds for his mind to catch up, and recall why her face looks so familiar. There have been so many cons, and so many miles and miles of life between them. But he knows her; she's been in his dreams sometimes. She's one of the few that he walked away from, one of the few he just couldn't con ( Read more... )

Juliet really doesn't have time for this.

She knew who he was as soon as Ben handed her the file, and she learned everything about him. He was a con artist, and that explains why they'd spent two months together, why he'd charmed her, slept with her when she was normally so guarded after her divorce. Before coming to this island, she'd been worth millions with patents in fertility drugs, and one already on the market.

So when she sees him, she knows she should just leave him. Let Danny do what he wants.

But she can't. She's not that person.

"They're going to kill you, James. Do you understand that? Danny is looking for someone to take out because of his wife's death, and that person is you. I'm helping you, but if you think right now, that you can win against him, tell me and I'll leave you alone to figure it out."

She's standing close to him, whispering harshly, knowing they don' have much time as she stares at him.

She's with them, and part of him wants to keep hating her and not trusting her because of that. But he's been a conman long enough that he's pretty confident he can tell when someone is deceiving him. All he sees in her eyes is a genuine desire to help. But he tried to con her out of everything, and he walked away. And no good, decent person does that, he knows it. He isn't worth the time or the trouble.

"I don't need your help," he practically sneers. "And I don't want it." He stands up, about to turn and walk away from her.

Juliet just about cusses his name, and she grabs him by the shoulder, punching him as hard as she can in the face, immediately feeling the throb race up and down her arm to her shoulder.

"Jackass," she mutters, shaking her hand out. When he goes down, she drags him to an abandoned shed and pushes him inside, locking it with a padlock before racing back to Ben to inform him that she couldn't find Ford. And with a padlock being on the outside, she knows no one will think to look for him there.

When he wakes up, it's dark in the shed, and his head is throbbing. Goddammit, she punched him. As annoyed as he is, part of him is also impressed at her strength, and her apparently fierce determination. But why the hell is she so determined to help him? Put her neck on the line for him?

He's gonna go crazy in here after too long, but he's also not about to start calling out for anyone, not knowing who could be nearby.
