He'll be getting off at 11:00 p.m. tonight, if all goes well. He's been a cop long enough, though, to know that he can't count on that happening very often, not in this city. The nights are long at the M.E.'s office, always short staffed and too many bodies it seems coming in. She's just taking off her gloves when her cell phone rings, and honestly, she doesn't want to answer. Doesn't want to have to go down to another crime scene tonight. But she does answer, because that's what she does. And when she sees which cop it is, there's a flicker of a smile.

"Sorry Detective Ford. I'm closed for the night."

He wouldn't hesitate before teasing back, normally, but his tone is low and serious. The ambulance pulls up, the medics rushing over to Rachel and getting her loaded onto a gurney.

"Hey, blue eyes," he says gently, taking a breath, "I got called to the scene of a robbery and assault. Juliet...it's your sister. Medics are here, she's gonna be just fine. I'm ridin' with her."

Juliet freezes for just a second, seemingly stuck.

"Assault." The words stick in her throat. "Was she..." She can't even say it, and she holds her breath, waiting for him to figure out what she's trying to ask him.

He shakes his head first, but she can't see that, obviously. "He didn't touch her," he assures her. He'd gotten there in time to prevent that, at least. He just hates that she got hurt at all. He follows the medics into the ambulance. "We'll be at the hospital in ten minutes."
