He shouldn't have even been gone a full day, let alone three, but the negotiations took longer than he'd anticipated, so he'd been delayed coming back. And in the rainy season, a delay like that is costly. His usual route back had been completely washed out, and he'd needed to take the longer route around to get back home. Juliet had to be kept - by Miles and Jin - from going out into the jungle to look for him herself. After the second day, she knew something wasn't right, but Horace kept reminding her that if James was dead, the Hostiles had to bring his body back as part of the contract ( ... )

He's not surprised by her relief, only surprised by her making it known in public. But he's sure as hell missed her, so his arms wrap around her tightly in return. He just wants to get clean, dry, warm, and spend the rest of the day as close to her as possible.

Juliet doesn't care, she honestly is so relieved to see him that she doesn't even think about it. She's getting soaked, and the mud on him is getting on her, but she only pulls away to kiss him. Her hands go to the side of his face as she does, kissing him hard and deep, before wrapping herself around him again.

On the porch, Miles and Jin both stand there with their mouths hanging open. They knew something was up since James was never home anymore, but damn.

He's holding her about as tightly as a person can be held, and kissing her back. Cat's out of the bag now, but he doesn't much care at the moment, either. He does care about her getting soaked to the bone, though, so he starts moving them toward the house.

"Let's get inside. I ain't goin' anywhere, I promise." She seems unwilling to let go of him in any capacity, which he understands.
