Diplomatic Meetings. [evilthatlures]

It was precisely 4:12... not that he'd been keeping track. He was standing outside Slug and Jiggers, wondering if Potter would be late - not that he cared if he were. It had been a long few weeks at the Manor; he'd been mixing Mother sleeping draughts nearly every night. He was almost as tired as she was, and still no word of his father. Though ( Read more... )

Harry was going to be late. It had taken him exactly fifteen minutes from when it was four o'clock for him to excuse himself so he could meet Draco. Ron had insisted that Harry stay to listen to his recount of this afternoon's Quidditch game (it didn't matter that Harry had been present during said game and had witnessed Ron's brilliant move against the Weasley twins), and then Hermione (yes, good ol' Hermione) had brought up the fact that Ginny would only be arriving at five o'clock to meet with Harry at the Quidditch store, so why exactly did he need to be in such a hurry for?

Questions, questions and even more questions. And then finally a lie.

He needed to get himself a pair of new... socks. And it couldn't wait. And he'd bolted.

4:21...

Rushing out the backdoor of Eeylops Owl Emporium; having taken a quick shortcut, Harry brushed feathers off his shirt and hurried towards Slug and Jiggers. Hardly anyone from Hogwarts ever bothered to shop in the store unless it was the week before school started so it was the perfect place to ( ... )

Draco had shifted inside, gathering potion ingredients mechanically and trying not to think about being stood up by The Boy Who Lived. Perhaps this was to get Draco back for all the humiliation, and threats of more to come. It was alright, his mother was waiting-- he paid for his things and headed for the door, nearly walking into Harry on his way out.

Impassive disappointment turned quickly to smug amusement.

"Well, well, well. Potty decided to show his face after all."

Harry stared for a moment at the bag of potion ingredients Draco was holding onto, surprised that he'd actually bought something from the store before he moved his gaze up and allowed for the corner of his lips to curl upward to match the smirk that was on Draco's face.

"Well, I don't break promises." Funny he should say that, really. Did he promise he'd come?

Well, Harry had only been looking forward to this all week...

Really now, Potter. Do you have to remind yourself of that pathetic fact?

"What's all this?"

He shrugged, pushing past Harry so he wasn't in the way of incoming traffic to the store. "I told you I was out of mugwart," he said meekly. "And you didn't really promise."

Why did Potter always have to be so dramatic.

The wall shuddered with a resounding crack and Harry took a step backwards, almost colliding into Draco before he swung his arm out, wand pointed in the direction of the wall. He held his other arm out in front of the Slytherin in a sort of protective gesture.

"I think we should go."

Something was growing out of the surface of the wall. He was sure of it. "Malfoy, turn around," Harry ordered, unable to shake the feeling that they were in danger. "Run!" he yelled, turning and grabbing Draco by the arm.

He tried like hell not to panic, but in the end, for all the world he proved to be the little girl they said he was - he struggled to make his feet work as he clung to Harry, words stolen by terror.
