Great review. I know how you feel about needing to be in the right mood for some books. I'm struggling to finish Rhapsody by Elizabeth Haydon as rec'd by Tara. It's really slow and I'm not really feeling it. But I hate to give up on it.

Hope your book works out. This is my test - a librarian that I knew once told me to give a new book 33 pages to hook you. If you could put it down at that point and not wonder what was going to happen after that, then maybe the book just isn't your thing.
