I feel like a dunce

I'd always heard those statistics - you know, the "90% of women are wearing the wrong size bra" stat? "Ho, ho, those poor women!" chuckled I. "You'd think they'd know their bra didn't fit right ( Read more... )

"*I can't remember where I read it and can't be arsed to look for a link, but it was basically: Measure firmly where the bottom of your band would go around your body. This is the band size. Bend over at the waist and measure around your dangling ta-ta's without compressing them too much. Difference in inches = cup size - such as 1 = A, 2 = B and so on."

There was also something in this very much older, very basic formula (which always seemed eminently workable to me) about adding one or subtracting something and about rounding up to the next whole even number if the band measurement is this, that, or something-or-other, in order to obtain the correct band size. And then the cup size, determined by measuring over the fullest part of the bust and subtracting the band measurement or size (I've forgotten which) from the bust measurement ( ... )

I don't have the time or interest to make my own bras at the moment. That the straps shouldn't really be doing any of the support is one of the facts I read, too. I was always tightening my straps and sometimes even sewing the slide adjuster in place to keep them from falling off my shoulders!

I've definitely got the interest, but haven't managed the time. I guess that says something about the degree of my motivation?

I had the same light bulb moment a few years ago. I ended up in a 30 FF, a weird size and hard to find but it's what fits!

Oddly, there are tons of bra blogs out there. Most I read were really helpful for me in understanding the sizing theories and figuring out how to re-asses myself.

Don't feel bad. All this time, I thought I was a 36B. Turns out I'm either 30F or 32E. Yikes!

Edit: PS--I actually discovered the cup/band size difference when I was trying on bras in Berlin--they had so many pretty bras that weren't stuffed with tons of padding (I really hate push up bras)! Trouble was I can't divide in my head well, so I couldn't translate the cm-inches well.
