"Lattice" prints (and indigo resists)

I've been thinking about the prints that have a diapered motif. (I had been calling them "trellis" prints to myself, but "lattice" is more what I was trying to convey so I have changed terms.) I am really enjoying all your fabric research posts!

I would also think that engraving depicts a printed/painted cotton. If it were a woven pattern, the whole garment would be cut on the bias, and wouldn't that be unusual?

If it were woven, it could be brocade woven to have a diaper pattern, not necessarily on the bias. However, this seems rather unlikely since I've never seen that type of brocade outside of men's clothes.
