Your Malaika is Evolving~

Jan 05, 2012 19:38

So, for the last few months I've been contemplating removing the moon and star marking from Mala (at least in her feral form). I made her when I was like 13 and at the time I was obsessed with moons and stars and Mala was a lioness complete with a family with similar markings and a backstory and so on and so forth. When she changed to being a wolf ( Read more... )

She's your character! You're allowed to do whatever you want with her look :)

That said- your picture is on the way as of today! I sent it via tube, but it seemed to be the safest method to get it to you in one piece :)

I know what you mean about 'natural looking'.. I'm having the same debate with my fursona, Gutter at the moment. I feel like when talented artists draw her in a realistic style the red really looks 'off' and beyond unrealistic. I have no idea how to change her and still have her feel like my fursona though.. :( Really unhappy about this right now, and was actually considering making a post about it asking for advice.

Good luck, let us know what you decide!

I know a lot of artists kind of rag on characters with "tattoos" since how the hell do you tattoo fur? Haha. I mean, I don't really care if it's what feels ~right~ to my character, but it just doesn't anymore. More like something that's just there cause it's always been there but it doesn't have any meaning anymore. I decided I'm going to take it off for now :) If I decided she just looks wrong without it or something I can always add it back since it's a minor thing, really.

I really like your design! I can understand what you mean, but there's lots of people out there with waaaay more colorful designs X) What if you made it a more natural red? There's some beautiful shades of "red" that retrievers come in. Like this color- http://pics.hoobly.com/thumbs/6W2OPZ8BICBLKMK8SC.jpg

Oh no hon! You weren't mean about it or anything! It actually made me laugh cause I hadn't even realized it, but then when I went back and looked at another sketch I did I hadn't drawn it on her then either. If anything, you just made me start thinking about it again, which is good because I think I'm gonna be happier without it being there. It looks awkward now, but in the end it'll be a good improvement :)

I know what you mean, it seems to be something a lot of people our age seem to feel similarly about now.. I GUESS OUR CHARACTERS GOTTA GROW UP TOO. I think that's why I draw Sync less and less these days.. Making her more birdlike helped me like her more again though. X3 Still I keep making myself more natural looking characters more recently (like Plugra, Noodle, etc.)

Aw I like Synchra! I think it's been forever since I've really seen art of her though :o See, I like colorful characters as long as they're done ~well~. I've always really liked Synchra's design and if she were mine I probably wouldn't change her X) It's funny how it can be different from person to person. I'm sure there's people that probably wouldn't think Mala's moon and star marking was a big thing or that it should be removed or anything, but to me it's just kind of an aspect I'm over with. I think maybe it has a lot to do with changing her to have spots/stripes too. I found a design that looks natural and is really appealing to me. If she were still just white, I probably would keep the moon and star, but for some reason on her new design it seems like a bit much or something.

Awe, thank you. X3 I designed her (well in that design) when I was like 12 or something so it's still just kinna.. odd to me. She is a rainbow.. and I HATE DRAWING WINGS. hahahhaa. I have considered ripping her wings off forever, but then she wouldn't be a birdcat! They get in the way and I never draw her flying so they seem a bit pointless in her anthro form. Also everyone and their mom lately has been doing feather tipped ears within the last couple years (which I used to think was the one thing left on her design that was still original and not in use by anyone else until I started to see it pop up. x.x) She'll never go away though. She will be around forever. I just continue to make.. alternate versions of her. haha.

I like the more natural look on Mala too!! I think she's beautiful. c:
