It was pretty late at night by the time they finally reached the Canadian border. As he drove closer to the border he couldn't help but feel a little nervous. They'd only ask a few questions, right? It wasn't likely that they would have pictures of them or anything, any way of knowing that they were trying to run from the law, right ( Read more... )

Elle was tired, very tired by the end of the trip. Gabriel had been driving straight for nearly ten hours (she couldn't imagine how exhausted he was), and all she wanted to do was find a hotel, shower, and curl up close to him until she fell asleep. Not feel her body hum with charged electricity and adrenaline shocking her fully alert as they crawled behind cars to the border patrol.

She sighed in relief when she felt his fingers gripping hers, and squeezed them reassuringly, looking over to him with a soft smile. It really wasn't a big deal, right? It was Canada. Boring old Canada.

"It'll be fine," she said, with her best casual shrug. "It's just Canada, right?"

"Right," He nodded his head with agreement. "It shouldn't be a problem at all."

He couldn't help but feel nervous though. The exhaustion didn't help with that. He had been driving far too long and all he really wanted to do was sleep, at this point. But still, he couldn't help but feel like things were going way too well so far. He kept expecting something to catch up with them, eventually.

So did she. The events of that morning seemed like a distant nightmare, and Elle felt as if something was going to happen to make it all real again. And that was the last thing she wanted; all she wanted was for everything to be behind them so they could move forward. Any reminders would ruin everything, she was sure of it.

Or maybe she was just nervous and paranoid.

She nodded, keeping the casually smile on as they rolled up to the patrol. The man leaned down with a smile, looking both friendly and polite. "Hey there," he nodded. "How are you doing tonight?"

Instantly, Elle directed her innocent grin to him. "Good! You?"

"I'm doing well, thank you," The man smiled back at them. "So what takes you out to Canada tonight?"

"We're on Vacation," He answered smoothly. "She's always wanted to go, haven't you?" He asked, turning to Elle.
