Based on my rec post from last night, I've been having a lot of thoughts about the nature of fandom and the reasons why people read what they read and don't read what they don't. I'll spare you the aimless meta and get straight to the point: I'm thinking of starting a different sort of HP challenge community. The Sales Pitch:

I would definitely join. What a fascinating idea! While I was reading your "salesman pitches" a bunch of bunnies I would never write flocked to me. I wonder if others would enjoy it too..? I think it would make a great community. It's always good (and fun) to get out of whatever rut you fall into, you know?

*dances* I'm so glad you've joined! And I'm glad I'm bunnying you, too - that's exactly the point, that we turn fandom upside down and suprise even ourselves! I hope this catches on, because what we produce will no doubt be really cool.

I am not sure how good I would be, but if you're still looking for a mod, I'm willing to try it out. :D I don't mind modding at all, I just don't have any experience at it.

Yay! The idea's met with pretty good reception so far, and I'm absolutely thrilled! I really hope we can produce some stuff the likes of which HP fandom has never seen before.

I like the idea a lot and I'm always trying to try new things (ie. I wrote Moody/McGonagall over Christmas) to shake things up a bit. I'd join :) No idea what to call it though!

Glad you like the idea! I think it's time we had something just a bit different, especially since so many newbies are going to be flooding into fandom, and you can only recycle the same old cliches so many times.
I've ended up calling it hp_left_field, out of the idea that people aren't going to expect what our members produce.

I hope a lot of people would be interested - after all, interest in fandom in general is just starting to pick up what with the release of the book and the movie, and I think it's time we had something fresh and new. As for safe? Yeah, I like the idea that everyone's on even footing. It'd be great to have one of the BNFs known for, say, Snarry, writing something that's the polar opposite. It'd give us all a chance to stretch our writing muscles and get a taste of something new, becayse too often we get set in our ways, and thus bored with fandom - and we can't have that!
