I like the Delgado!Beard m'self - it's the Ainsley!Beard that always seemed a bit rubbish to me. I only vaguely follow what LJ is up to, it yanks people around so carelessly, hence keeping my stuff at DWth so now I'm curious what idiocy they did this time, I must admit.
Have you tried leaving the 'View in own style' box checked? On mine, that applies across the entire domain untill unchecked. I don't yet know if it goes all the way down to the comment layout, though.
Yeah, it's so easy to find that it's almost hard! I mostly use it when I'm looking at other people's journals, and they turn out to be in one of those styles that make your eyes bleed, either from strain or from trauma.
And I just tested it too -- checked it, went to a comm where the Evil Comment Layout of Doom had appeared, and lo! The old layout was back.

I'm still trying to figure out what the changes are. This comment box right here looks completely normal, but I think it might depend on the journal / comm? It even looks like I can create a subject. Let me see. Yes, looks like it's going to work!

Yup, this layout is another of the Favoured Few -- I think it's one of the Expressive family. My guess is that if you have one of the layouts that allow for customised comment pages, and you have the customisation enabled, even if you don't have a custom page coded, the existing layout style overrides their latest exercise in craptastic codation and the features are preserved.

Yup, Expressive - and I had Minimalist before that. I seem to have good taste in journal styles. ;P
Where's this "view in my style" tickybox you've been mentioning? I really, really hate viewing everything in my style (I get so confused about whose journal I'm on), so I never bothered to remember it if I've seen it, but it's better than not having my Expand buttons. o_O

Any time you're on someone else's journal, including a comm, you can look at the top of the page, where it says (for example) 'you are viewing lolmac's journal' or 'lolmac is your mutual friend'. Next to that item is a ticky box that says 'View in own style'. Check it. It will override the existing style and layout with yours -- very handy when viewing a truly awful MySpace-style layout. Also handy for regaining full commenting features.
The ticky box is not always visible, however, when you're in an individual comm post and you're trying to make a comment. In those cases, you can back out, tick the box, and go back in; or open another LJ tab, tick the box, go back to the tab where you were trying to comment, and hit Refresh. The style override wiull apply in all tabs/windows/etc.
Speaking of customisation, I see you've set up the custom userhead feature. Illya, right?

(Ooh, my icon is appropriate. Because comment titles, like Delgado!Master's beard, are not actually rubbish. ...see above re: broken brain. *g*)
