Personality: Kotetsu Kaburagi is a passionate underdog whose utmost concern as both a hero and a citizen is to help those in need, rather than being considered famous in the eye of the public. As the veteran superhero Wild Tiger, he holds more old-fashioned ideals. He is not as popular in the hero business as he once was, however he has never been in it for the fame. As a child, his idol Mr. Legend explained to him that his powers weren’t meant to hurt others, but to save them. After this, Kotetsu aspired to become a hero and use his power for good. He takes great pride in his work, and thrives from the ability to save lives. Before the death of his wife, he made a promise to her that he would never give up what he does.
Not only is Kotetsu unappreciated as a hero, but he also has a reputation for being quite careless and clumsy. He obtains the nickname “Crusher of Justice” because of his tendency to cause destruction to property while on the job. In the end, he is always held responsible to pay for these damages. He gets himself into trouble because of his somewhat impulsive and stubborn nature. When paired up with his partner Barnaby Brooks Jr., one of the main obstacles in their partnership is the fact that they both became heroes for completely different reasons. Barnaby is in the business for the fame, while Kotetsu is not. Kotetsu often acts without thinking, while Barnaby is extra careful about being logical in his decisions. But despite their differences, both heroes are awfully resolute and refuse to accept any other way except for their own. While the two of them initially face trust issues amongst themselves, they eventually begin to get along and are able to work together efficiently.
Kind-hearted and caring, Kotetsu adores his young daughter Kaede. The hero business tends to keep them from seeing each other, though. It is very important to him that his daughter does not know about his secret identity, because he’s concerned that she’ll worry about something happening to him while on the job. Kaede lives with her grandmother, completely separate from her father. Almost every opportunity they have to see each other is interrupted by crime striking and Kotetsu’s inevitable bad luck. To Kaede, her father simply doesn’t care and she begins to have some negative feelings toward him. He tries his hardest to be the best father he can be, although this often results in him treating Kaede like a child, which she does not like at all.
Kotetsu has a habit of behaving somewhat childishly himself, especially toward his partner. He cracks jokes, gives silly nicknames, and acts like a huge man child every so often. While most of this behavior causes him to come off as a goofy dork, occasionally he ends up acting like this when it’s most uncalled for. He’s also the type that gets pulled into the wrong place at the wrong time. Still, he manages to put others before himself in any given situation, no matter how immature he acts.
Things begin to go smoothly for Kotetsu. By being associated with Barnaby, the duo gain publicity and become busy with interviews, photo shoots, and even musical performances. As Barnaby’s popularity and rankings climb, Kotetsu begins to see a decrease in his power. During this time, he feels that he's unfit to be a hero if he isn’t able to save others. He keeps a record of how fast his powers decrease, and gets to a point where he begins to consider doing something else with his life.
Abilities: Kotetsu is part of population of individuals with superpowers, known as NEXT. His specific power is known as the “Hundred Power”. It allows him to increase his physical abilities (strength, speed, endurance) by hundredfold. The downside is it only lasts for five minutes, and there’s a one hour period between activations. Although from the canon point he’s being taken from, his power is in the midst of declining. He’s still able to activate it, but the time span continuously gets limited as time goes on.
