"It just figures, right?"
"Right. Definitely."
"Welcome home."
"Thanks." Kcalb checked his watch, sighing simultaneously with Marty.
The shorter man leaned off of the car and craned his neck to inspect the rear damages again, and then flopped back into his bored position. "The other guy still hasn't even gotten out of his car."
"Honda Civic. Probably just some high school kid who's too ashamed of his first speeding accident." Kcalb looked at Marty and shrugged. "Leave 'im alone. The cops'll handle it. They're all I'm waiting for, anyway."
Marty quickly sized up the highway traffic and shook his head. "It's gonna take them a while."
"I'm not in a rush. I'm back home, that's all I can ask for. Really. You know?" Kcalb received a shrug.
"This gives me something to do then," Marty said as he heaved himself upright. He approached the other driver's side of the Civic with the swagger of a pompous jackass, and though it wasn't right to bully the other driver, it still drew a snicker out of Kcalb.
There was still a smile on Kcalb's face as the driver's tinted window rolled down cautiously, but it was quickly wiped off when Marty abruptly jumped back and shrieked. Kcalb's first thought was that the driver was dead, but that clearly didn't make any sense. Perhaps the driver had a physical disfigurement, though Kcalb hoped that wasn't the case. If it were true, he would feel disappointed with Marty's reaction.
Even after Marty screamed a second time, Kcalb hadn't moved. Since he couldn't gauge what the problem was, he ended up assuming the worst; however, he wasn't sure what the "worst" was. He just wasn't certain whether or not he wanted to find out.
The nervous tension wasn't broken until Yousei popped his head out of the driver's window and loudly asked, "Sup, bitches?"
This time, Kcalb screamed and nearly vaulted himself into the traffic flow as Marty laughed his proverbial ass off. He went through a more extreme reaction, screaming several more times as he kicked a whole new dent into his car and nearly broke through a window after banging his palm against the glass. Halfway through his outburst he staggered over to Yousei and Marty, reeling over and nearly giving himself an asthma attack.
Yousei quickly emerged from his car, laughing hard, and slapped Kcalb's back. "Hey! Don't forget to breathe!"
Kcalb gasped sharply and clapped at his chest, trying to keep the excitement down. "Get--get away from me, asshat! You were in there all along and you weren't going to do shit about it? Don't touch me, you jerk!"
"Oh come on," Yousei pleaded, with an unfamiliar whine. "I missed you faggots, I just have to keep a low profile. You know that."
"Yeah right, you motherfucker! You were waiting to see how long it would take, oh god, I should punch you right now.." Kcalb finally tried to stifle a laugh, pulling Yousei into a desperate bear hug. He muttered quietly, "I see you got your teeth fixed."
Yousei grinned and returned the hug, muttering back, "I couldn't let them stay all nasty."
"Hey! What about me?" Marty waved his arms for their attention.
Kcalb held up his finger, tacitly asking for just a few more seconds. He asked Yousei even more quietly than before, "Is JJ in the car too?"
"You mean Dean Ivery?" Yousei smirked and brushed off some imaginary dust off Kcalb's shoulder. "No, he's good to go by himself now."
"Seriously? After all of that crazy behavioral shit? What are you, some kind of god?"
Yousei cracked up and parted from him, turning to hug Marty but Marty got to him first, squeezing his breath out. "Oof," Yousei wheezed, "You mean you didn't know?" He inhaled finally and returned Marty's clinging hug.
"I don't think any god would've let himself get into a car accident," Kcalb cracked up.
"I work in mysterious ways," Yousei pointed at himself. "We met up, right?"
"Oh fuck you," Marty squeezed him tighter, making Yousei squirm uncomfortably. "It's not like you're gonna stay, man."
"Or will you?" Kcalb asked tenderly, raising his brows and clasping his hands together into a begging position. "Please?"
"Well," Yousei droned for a few seconds, at last wriggling away from Marty's gripping embrace. "Since you asked so nicely, sure. I'll come back."
Kcalb gaped for a second, pushing his hair back incredulously. "Really? But what about, you know?"
"JJ? He can hold himself down. He's good to go now, just quiet." Yousei shrugged, looking sheepish for some reason. "I won't let him come back just yet, and to be honest, I won't return completely either, but I'm available for work again. So don't worry about that, alright?"
"Fuckin' sweet," Marty snickered and pulled his hood up over his head, and after something caught his eye he pointed down the highway. "Ohp, here they come now."
sure enough, the flashing red and blue lights made their slow but eventual approach.
note: happened between 6-7pm.
