The fallout...

So if you followed today's exchanges on my LJ it is probably clear that montieth and I had a bit of a blowup. I was curious to see his thoughts on this matter so I did check his LJ. I laughed when I saw his post because the response was basically what I assumed it would be. I know it would fit nicely in his world view for me to be (the liberal) to ( Read more... )

Now seeing your side, I think you're both on the same page in that regard. That said, half the time when he pokes, it's in good fun, not for the purpose of throwing fuel on a fire. But to each his own, you're both my friends.

It's clear that you're both intelligent and passionate people. It's equally clear that you rub one another the wrong way!

Agree to disagree! Move on!

I don't know the other guy, so all I can say is I'm sorry you had to lose a friend in the process.

Sorry to hear it, but the internet isn't the right medium for talking politics. Or a lot of other subjects, for that matter. Just as you wouldn't use ye olde el-jay for talking serious science, you probably shouldn't use it for talking serious anything else either.

Of course, you prolly disagree with me, but I stick by this opinion after years of being on ye olde.

Uh, I mean, of course, that it's not the place to have open conversations with all comers about serious subjects. Among friends who agree to abide by the rules of civilized conversation it's another matter entirely.

I used to disagree with you but I am now converted. I think the internet can breed some good conversation and maybe a little eye-opening but so much is lost in tone of voice and body language. Last night on the way back from a party we had a discussion on this very subject..

...so you make the rules for it. After having tangled with your friend once on some political subject, I understand your perspective. It didn't bother me all that much--since he wasn't my friend--but it did eventually grow tiresome.. and it was more about his patronizing manner that made it tiresome...

I'm sorry it appears a friendship of yours has fallen by the wayside, but sometimes people just grow apart.

Good Luck!

It was the patronizing nature of his writing that really was sort of the last straw. I dont feel that his statements that he appreciates the other side of an argument are genuine (any longer... I do believe they were for a while).

It is unfortunate that it had to end but I think this is a far better way than by having some long drawn out mudraking exchange between the two of us that gets all dramatic.
