I joined facebook and this whole thing just moves waaaayyy too quickly. My inbox was filled with like 30 messages in less than 2 or 3 hours... does this slow down after the initial setup? I'm hoping so...

Um...yeah. And I sent you a friend request. I just got on Facebook a couple weeks ago and it was the same for me. Things calmed down after the first week...hehe.

Sort of...ish. Be warned, though. Your newsfeed will have an alarming tendency to have some jackass braying some nonsense like 'SAUSAGES!' or some crap like that.

When you first start, it sends a lot of friend suggestions and everyone on your list who plays those stupid mafia wars/elven blood/animal farm games wants to add because they work like pyramid schemes for pretend money/points. Ignore those, hide the updates of people you don't care about but are friending because of online politeness, and it will calm down.
