Watch out for falling spoilers!
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
He's pretty short. They say in-game that he's only about Lamiroir's height and I'm pretty sure he's shorter than Phoenix. So I'd say probably 5' 6" or so. Apollo's also a pretty small sort of guy, which I'd say he inherited from his mom.
2. How old is he?
22
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
He generally has really good posture. In informal environments, he probably relaxes it a bit.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
I'd say he's relatively fit, though not at the level of an athlete. He does pound the pavement a lot in investigations and I think he tends to get around primarily on foot, since he doesn't have the money for a car at the moment.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
About average in terms of gracefulness. I like to think that he inherited some of that magician's skill and is really graceful with his hands.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Canonically, he's mostly teased for his hair. Nobody calls him handsome or anything, so I'd say he's average in terms of attractiveness. I think he mostly likes his appearance, though maybe the antennae hair + red suit comes from feeling a little plain. I think he's really conscientious about his appearance and tries to use clothes and such to give off a certain air (maybe of confidence? Competence? Who knows).
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Relatively fair.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Medium brown with crazy antennae that he carefully spikes every morning. The rest of it is cut neatly. It's probably relatively thick and straight.
9. What color are his eyes?
Also medium brown.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
He has such a baby face. It makes him look so much younger than the other characters, even if they're only a year or two apart.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Shoulders and neck, which means that he sometimes gets tension headaches.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
I think he has several red suits. The rest is mostly dressy-casual and I think he has at least one black suit. Of course, he also has stuff like sweatpants for when he's chilling around the house.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Yep, on both counts. I think he has everything carefully tailored. And because he wears his suit so often he's probably pretty comfortable in it.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
I think he probably dresses down a little by wearing slacks and a shirt. Though he's still pretty careful about what he wears.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Maybe a touch higher than average.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
A little louder than average and generally pretty evenly. I think he can speak easily, but he hesitates when he's not entirely sure what to say. Which is often, considering the people he runs into.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
It's a standard American accent probably with some Californian colloquialisms. He doesn't have any verbal tics unless shouting overly loudly in court counts.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Probably whatever Spanish he remembers from high school (which isn't a lot). Maybe also a little Latin because of studying law. In b4 "you don't speak Latin."
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
His ability to make stuff up on the spot is second only to Phoenix's. He prefers to think before he speaks, but sometimes he just doesn't have the opportunity.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Generally pretty eloquent in court. In normal circumstances, he's a more eloquent than average (but certainly not a poet). He gets a bit inarticulate when he's embarrassed or flustered.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Above average, but nowhere near a genius. I think he'd always gotten good grades because of a combination of intelligence and hard work. After all, he's a full-blown lawyer at 22 plus he had been at what was apparently a pretty prestigious law firm until his boss was, yanno, convicted of murder.
He demonstrates a pretty good balance of book smarts and street smarts, though he's a bit out of touch with popular culture.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He has to think on his feet. It helps if he has time to deliberate, though.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
I think he's pretty balanced on all counts. He strives to think logically, but in some situations he has to listen to his gut. In a day-to-day way, he's pretty practical but he's an idealist when it comes to truth and justice.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
An average public education. I think he decided pretty early on to be a lawyer, though, so he took at least honors-level, if not college-level, courses in high school.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Definitely law. I have no idea what else he's interested in. Maybe something out of left field like astronomy. Hard to say.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Generally even-tempered, but once you make him really and truly angry, you will probably wish you hadn't. He tends to be on the border of realist and pessimistic. And he's definitely driven. Once he sets his mind to something, he works at it until it's done.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
I think at first he's a bit tense and unsure, but I also think he adapts quickly. How quickly depends on the person or situation.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Depends. He tends to act when it comes to helping his clients and friends, but otherwise he mostly reacts.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Also depends. If it's a conflict that he deems unimportant (which is most of them), he's more inclined to back off and stop it. However, if it's something important (like in court or if it concerns someone he cares about), he will fight until he wins or literally can't fight anymore.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Generally pretty wry and sarcastic. He hates pranks. (Looking at you, Trucy.)
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Nope.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
You don't get a lot about his history in canon, but you can assume that Phoenix is a relatively important figure in his life in different ways.
When he learned about Phoenix's career in some capacity, whether he read up on it in the newspaper as a kid or encountered it in school, I think it spurred him to become a lawyer or at least solidified his decision to become a lawyer. I like to think that Phoenix's career left a big impression on young Apollo and what first made him want to be a lawyer and, particularly, a lawyer like Phoenix.
Another important event was when his mentor was arrested for murder. I don't think he and Gavin were super close, but I think that Apollo at least trusted and looked up to him. Finding out that his mentor was a sociopath made him a bit cynical and less willing to trust people.
Actually meeting Phoenix also affected him, particularly once he learned the truth in "never meet your heroes." Finding out that Phoenix was willing to forge evidence and didn't care about the means so much as about the ends upset Apollo. He looked up to Phoenix as a role model and so I think he felt betrayed.
I also think that growing up as an orphan affected his personality and the types of skills he acquired. Canon is frustratingly mum about his history, but I personally think he was bounced around in the and, though he didn't have any experiences with abuse, he learned to take care of himself both physically and emotionally. I think on the whole he was treated pretty indifferently by his foster parents, but he did have some good foster parents and supportive mentors.
14. What does he fear?
Helplessness. He is terrified of getting his innocent clients declared guilty and I think it would break his spirit if it ever happened. He also doesn't want to be helpless when people he cares about need him.
I think he's also afraid of Gavin to some extent. He's afraid of the man himself because he's a clever, careful sociopath who Apollo thinks would gladly get revenge on him and Phoenix (and Trucy would be collateral damage. Again) if given the opportunity. I think he's more afraid of what Gavin represents: clever, heartless criminals who would commit crime after crime and let innocent person after innocent person hang for it.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He'll never admit it to anyone, but he wants to be like Phoenix was in his prime.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Not much. There are some topics that might be touchy with him, but I don't think he has any skeletons in the closet.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Nonexistent. He doesn't know his parents at all and apparently either hasn't sought them out or hasn't had any luck in finding anything out about them. Because he was orphaned at such a young age (at only age 1), he's accepted it as a fact of life and doesn't think about it too much since it's his normal. Deep down, though, I think he's angry and sad and bitter about all of it. It would be really tough on him if he ever met them (well, his mom since his dad died, but he doesn't know that).
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
He has a half-sister but doesn't know it. They're friends right now, though it definitely has a older brother-younger sister dynamic. He's always worrying about her and looking after her.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He doesn't know them. I think that if he ever met Magnifi (though that's canonically impossible since he's dead), he wouldn't get along with him at all, especially considering the crap he put his mother and sister through.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
You could argue a case for Phoenix, but I think he's pretty firmly in the "mentor" category. With maybe a bit of "crazy uncle."
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
His only friend in canon is Trucy, and they met when he was defending her father in a trial. Though they didn't really properly meet until he came to the Agency.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Apparently not! I don't think he has any childhood friends because of moving around so much and IDK about friends he made as an adult. Maybe he's been too focused on his job? Maybe he hasn't been in the right environment to make friends?
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He gets along fine with most people, but he doesn't make friends very easily, much less close friends. Maybe some of it comes from being reserved and being used to being self-sufficient.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
He doesn't have any family (that he knows of), so friends. They're basically his family.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No and no.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Probably a cute girl he saw on the playground in elementary school. I don't know about his latest. Possibly someone he met in law school? He's not in a relationship as far as canon is concerned (well that we know of) so I don't know that he necessarily acts on his crushes or that he has any luck with long-lasting relationships.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Not murderers. He generally would like someone who's more or less law-abiding (within reason; he's not going to dump someone for double parking) and has a strong belief in something. He likes the sweet, girl-next-door types. He probably wants someone with common interests and similar enough that they won't strangle each other. What he needs is another thing entirely
Also IIRC he hinted that he liked the type of girl Alita Tiala was (or, well, was pretending to be). God help him if he ever meets Dahlia. That's all I have to say.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Nope. I don't know that he's really thought about children, but I think he'd make a good dad if he ever decided to have them.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Klavier, the prosecutor. They're on good terms outside of court and generally respect each other.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
Maybe a 2?
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Well, he is a twenty-two-year-old guy. It's not top on his list, though.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
I...have no idea.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
He doesn't have a canon birthday, but I pegged him as an
Aquarius based on personality.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Neither and it's relatively unimportant.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Ohhh yes and it's very strong. I'm not sure how it started (it probably helped that his name is Justice). I think that's just how he is.
Apollo would not compromise his morals except under extreme circumstances. Like someone he loves will die if he doesn't.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's a pretty curious guy, so he'd probably ask them why they think the way they think. He'd probably be relatively tolerant of most beliefs, unless they clash very strongly with his.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He doesn't like murderers and I think that's pretty rational.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Apollo is probably okay in terms of finances, but he's nowhere near flush with money. He probably doesn't get paid much and he was unemployed for two months, so that took out a big chunk of his savings.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Since becoming an adult, I think he's always been at about the same place-- lower middle class. Just slightly above "starving artist."
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
He lives alone in a small apartment. It's his home but I don't think he spends much time there, between work and looking after Trucy in Phoenix's absence. Someone has to make sure she goes to sleep before 3AM.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Hair gel. Also probably books and CDs. The usual.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He's a defense attorney and he loves his job, though it's pretty tough. He's pretty good at it too. Never lost a case. He hasn't done too many yet, though.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Vocal exercises. Every morning.
He doesn't have a lot of free time, but he spends it being a boring hermit. Reading, watching TV.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He's usually pretty good about getting meals in, but he will skip meals if he's busy. I think he can cook a little, so he doesn't eat out all the time. He probably drinks and might go out from time to time to a pub/bar/whatever.
Apollo can never eat Snackoos because Ema has scarred him for life.
