Apollo's profile at Court Records

Snippet about Apollo on Wikipedia

Affiliation: Trainer

Personality:

A big element of Apollo's personality is, in fact, tied to his last name: he has a very strong sense of justice. He never strays from the path toward truth, even if he's not entirely sure he wants to know the truth. Phoenix mentions hiring him as his defense attorney by saying that he needed someone incorruptible with a strong, unwavering sense of justice. Apollo is definitely the sort of person who would never sacrifice his ideals because of external pressure. In the first case, for instance, he seems quite loyal to Kristoph, though this loyalty doesn't prevent Apollo from pursuing the allegations that Kristoph may in fact be the guilty party. Also, one of the only times we see him very angry in the game is when Phoenix makes Apollo unwittingly break his code of honor by giving him a piece of evidence that turned out to be forged.

The effects of that first case-- of seeing his mentor arrested for murder and of meeting Phoenix-- resonates with him throughout the game. He starts off as your typical rookie: nervous but enthusiastic. After the events of the first case, he seems a little more jaded. I think being tricked into presenting forged evidence by Phoenix, someone he admired and believed in, is what brought about this change.

Apollo is also rather an old soul. He's serious, reliable, responsible, practical, and relatively knowledgeable. On the flip side, he's also cynical, somewhat pessimistic, and has been accused of being “prickly.” In spite of his sometimes “prickly” air, he is genuinely a good-hearted person. He's worried over and mother-henned Trucy since day one without even knowing her that well. He also feels a strong sense of sympathy for his clients and those affected by the murders. Although he's a good-hearted person, he doesn't seem to be particularly good at making friends; he tends to make alliances. He's not necessarily unsociable though he's also not particularly outgoing, which might explain it.

He's a very determined, tenacious person, particularly in court. Outside of court, he seems to like to pick his battles and errs on the side of safety. Once in court, though, it all changes; he's no stranger to going out on a limb and making unbelievable, difficult-to-prove points in true Ace Attorney style.

On the outside, Apollo appears to be generally pretty calm. However, he is pretty easy to read, as evidenced by his court sprites' exaggerated expressions and that Klavier can sometimes word-for-word quote what Apollo's thinking. He becomes really emotional if somebody gets hurt (or is presumed hurt). He also gets rather flustered from time to time, most often when he makes a mistake in court.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

→ Good at pretty much anything associated with his job: logic, reasoning, evidence-gathering, getting information out of people (legally!). The last one's a bit situational and really depends on the person/the evidence he has/his ability to Perceive their tics.

→ Speaking of Perceiving, he's basically a human lie detector. His bracelet reacts to tension in other people and, using the skills Trucy taught him, he can home in on other people's body language. He can tell if they're uncertain or lying even if it's unintentional.

→ Tenacity and determination, especially if it's important.

→ He can apparently hula hoop like a boss.

Weaknesses

→ His mouth is sometimes a little faster than his brain, which gets him in a bit of trouble in court sometimes.

→ He is terrified of heights. In a pinch, he can get over it enough to get done what needs to be done. But if he can avoid it, he will.

→ He sometimes forgets to use his indoor voice.

Samples

First Person Sample:

[Apollo wasn't having much luck with the NPCs of New Bark town. Having more or less figured out the communicator, he decides to give it a try. So have a young man with ridiculous antenna hair sliiightly too close to the camera.]

Excuse me. [He doesn't seem to have thought much further than that, so he pauses.] Um, hi. Could someone fill me in on what's going on here? I'm hoping for hallucination. Is there someone I can talk to? There's been a mistake: I'm a lawyer, I don't know anything about [what were they called?] these...creatures.

[Apollo pauses briefly, thinking.]

By the way, did anyone lose a dog? It's been following me around all day. [He tilts the camera down to the Growlithe sitting faithfully at Apollo's side.] They keep saying it's mine, but I really think it's a mistake.

[Just before the video clicks out, you can hear him mumble:] Why do I get the feeling that I'm being too optimistic here?

Third Person Sample:

Day 2 of trudging through an unfamiliar forest and already Apollo was sore. Dress shoes really weren't made for hiking, plus sleeping on the ground had been even more uncomfortable than it sounded. This whole “roughing it” thing was pretty foreign to a city boy like Apollo, and it just heightened his feelings of culture shock.

And was it a culture shock. Honestly, try as he might, he couldn't wrap his head around all of it. He'd thought he'd run into some incomprehensible situations and people before, but they were run-of-the-mill compared to this. He somehow, by what he can only assume is some perversion of physics, landed in village full of people who hadn't even heard of the United States, much less Los Angeles. They just handed him a backpack, a strange-looking dog (Growlithe, he reminded himself. At least that made some sense), and told him to be on his way. From what he'd been able to gather, he was supposed to use his "Growlithe" to beat up other "Pokemon" and then stick them in uncomfortable-looking balls. Legal or not (and he had a hard time believing it was legal), it didn't seem ethical. At least his Growlithe seemed to like him. Which was good, since he couldn't very well leave it to fend for itself, even if it seemed pretty capable.

Oh, but that wasn't all. It turned out that there were a lot of other people in his shoes (metaphorically; he wouldn't wish hiking in dress shoes on anyone). Apparently, whatever law of physics that decided to break took some of its friends with it; they were from all over space and time. Apollo wouldn't have believed it but the evidence was right there. Or Wright there (augh, Trucy must be rubbing off on him). There he was, at least seven years younger. It was definitely real and definitely not a joke. (Mr. Wright's jokes were usually much lamer and more obvious than this anyway.) It didn't help the shock, honestly. It was like night and day-- even his gestures and way of speaking were different. And, if he were being honest, Apollo was a bit starstruck. Not that he'd ever admit it. Trucy didn't seem too affected by it as she was as cheerful as always, but Apollo knew that it must have. She and her father were so close, after all. He's a little worried about her, and her being quite a ways away made it worse. Meanwhile, he'd just have to try to keep it together. He was the adult here, after all.

But believe you me, Apollo was far from okay with all of this. The only comfort he had in his confusion was that everything, and he meant everything, left evidence.
And he was going to use it to get to the bottom of everything.

Spoiler warning and stuff.
