I've apparently lost a good deal of hearing in my right ear. (And for those who didn't know, I'm deaf in my left.) It came out of nowhere about 45 minutes ago ( Read more... )

Odd. You know, that happens to me some times. And my mom's also deaf in one ear.

Oi, I hope it resolves itself. Sometimes I go deaf in one ear for a day or two until things resettle, hopefully that'll happen with you too. *hugs*

Is it really that common? I think it happened once or twice when I was little and my father would have me lay down on the couch and put hydrogen peroxide, which was one of the weirdest sensations ever. *cuuuuurls up with*

It happens maybe once every two or three years for me? I have very waxy ears (got that from my Nan, she has to get her professionally cleaned every other month) so I think it's build up. Heat (hot water bottle or warmed up rice sock, etc) will loosen up any wax (warm olive oil dropped in the ear works well too), then hydrogen peroxide followed by rubbing alcohol is a good way to clean them out without getting any water trapped in there.

(I did not know wax build up was partially genetic. :o ♫~The more you know~♪)

I've heard of olive and clove oil doing all kinds of great things for home remedies, so I shouldn't be so surprised. Of course, the thought of putting anything oil into my ear was a little... scary? But I did do the hydrogen peroxide thing and the rubbing alcohol.

I think those solved it. Thanks a lot! (I think it's about time you wrote an online manual with home remedies and other odds and ends. It'd be really useful and practical. :D)

Hoo-lee shit. I'm mostly deaf in my right ear, too, so losing hearing in the Good Ear has got to be awful. Can you get to a doctor???

Aaaaaaa I feel like I'm learning so much stuff about people. Is one ear deafness more common than I thought it was? :|

I haven't gone to one. By now, thanks to Otana's remedies and stuff my father did when I was a wee one, it turned into a hollow sound yesterday and this morning I seem to be much better. I'm wondering if it was just wax build up, but I would have thought that to be gradual and not so sudden as it was.
