New Years + Late Resolutions + Avatar + .... + .....

Well, things have been hectic between the Xmas/New Year celebration and work (we don't have xmas holidays over here, but don't feel too sorry for me I have Chinese New Years in a few weeks), so I've pretty much been neglecting my LJ. The last couple days I've been considering tackling my F-List, but the sheer magnitude of it is quite daunting so I ( Read more... )

Sounds like well thought out resolutions, and obtainable. All the best. I'm also a fan of Cormac McCarthy. Love his writing style.

Thanks, Mary! This is the first I've read by him, though I've heard Blood Meridian is really good. I certainly like The Road so far.

Dude! I spent New Yr at the Pix Patisserie champagne and chocolate midnight buffet! It's hard not to have fun when that much chocolate is involved.

Best in 2010 to you, sir.

Damn! Champagne and chocolate can't be bad at all! I was amazed in Taipei to see the complete lack of libations going around. It just ain't right without the champagne!

Best to you as well. Hope there's many more big sales in your future!

I hear you re: reading more. Time is precious, but so is reading. I want to carve more time out each day, even just 10-15 minutes. Onward.

Totally agree. At least with 10-15 bminutes you can keep yourself in the reading zone as if you don't read for days it can be hard to pick up the same book again.

Sounds like you've got a good handle on things about writing, improving and submitting.

Re: Reading, I hear you. :) It seems like when I taught I at least got the reading that the classes were doing, though it was a bit repetitive year after year. Now I end up reading a little each day (some days more than others) but it doesn't seem like I have nearly as much in quantity.

One thing that's kind of neat for me is that I'm teaching the students privately so I go through there material for each year without any repetition. Also they get to choose books and I some times give them a recommendation like Life of Pi recently. My student loved that one and I loved re-reading it, too. But yeah I don't do nearly enough personal reading and that's sad too, because it can offer a lot of inspiration. Hoping to change that this year.

That's a great thing being able to choose the books that you are teaching. I was able to do that a little, but because of budget stuff, getting a whole class set was sometimes a problem. :)
