Shipment Gouging, a Peeve

Gouging on shipping costs on eBay can be a problem at times. I've seen my share of greed, but this just takes the cake:

RTS rts 3 lot sale EV AKG BEYER TYPE MIC one money all - Shipping: $150

I have one of these units, and checked what it'd cost to send three in a box. FedEx Ground worked out to about $12.

I hope no one bids. I certainly

This is a common ploy; offer the item for dirt cheap, but make your profit on the shipping. It's definitely one way to rip off the customer and may even be an attempt to sidestep eBay's charges on the final sale of the item.

I always check the shipping before bidding.

I've seen the 'cheap item, insane shipping' before. Notably, a tray (qty 50) of 1GB SD cards. $40 for the cards, $50 for shipping. Especially nice for the seller since 'shipping isn't refundable'. I'd not thought of the 'save valuation' aspect. What's odd about the auction I listed is the price wasn't very good on the items in the first place.

I ran across a similar ploy with prosumer video gear. A shady outfit in Brooklyn, NY was selling a pro DV deck for an exceptionally competitive price, but shipping was $295. Of course I didn't do business with them.

mraw.. common ebay way to sell stuff yesh..

1 $ for the produkt and 598 $ shipping..
but they already announced that they will do something about that.
They'll add automatic shipping cost calculators where you can enter the data of the product. Lets see if that will change something.
