Things that happened in the past week or so:
1. I taught my last class in Andeok. It was a winter camp, mostly optional, so on any given day 2 to 6 students would show up. On my last day we ate cookies and played Moonball (while spelling, so, you know, it was educational).
2. I got a haircut that prompted my usually reticent and bend-over-backward-to-be-polite coworkers to ask, "What happened?" I made the mistake of going to one of my student's mom's places to get it done, instead of going to the usual place. Tomorrow I'll probably go to the usual place.
3. I'm on vacation for like the next month.
4. Our toilet pipe froze and we had to suffer three days of... rather vexing decisions.
5. Also for some reason we lost our Internet connection for about four days.
6. I used that time to write a new story. It's funny how much the initial idea morphs if I go beyond 1K. What starts as, say, "quirky ghost story" ends up being "ninjas versus giant telepathic ice worms" before I know it.
7. January 24th was th centennial of C.L. Moore's birth.
Erin Hoffman posted a nice piece on Moore's Jiriel of Joiry. 8. I read Patricia Anthony's Brother Termite and Flanders during our Internet outage. I found them to be pretty amazing. Really. If you've never read her work before go and track some down.
9. Odd how much more I’m thinking about what to read on the plane back to the US than what I’ll pack for two weeks there. This likely means I'll pack eight books and a change of socks.
Actually one thing I need to do in the States is clothing shop. Other than buying clothes online, I have to travel about 6 hours to find a store that carries clothes my size. It's a drag.
10. I'm also thinking of getting a new computer while in the states. I've had my iBook almost 10 years, and it's starting to show. It'll be nice to watch youtube again.
