I seriously doubt I'll ever do anything cosmically important as all resources to prohibit such an event have been dried up through lack of contact or lack of desire. by cosmically important i mean creatively, because creativity was once the oil that powered this machine, but now it's a well thats nothing but dust. yea. thats depressing a little bit ( Read more... )

leaving a "mark" creatively is, to me, an obsolete modernist concept. to be less heady about it, i'll tell you what i think are some interesting developments about our "era," whatever that is:

- the "democratization" of artistic pursuit. i know there's a better word for that, i just can't think of it. but, you know what i mean. the tools are available to anyone who wants them, the ability to broadcast one's effort is more accessible than it's ever been.

- as a result of that, the ability to apply artistic / creative effort to "practical" work is more welcome or encouraged. the same goes for everyday life. i think the emphasis on creativity is on individual, everyday life as opposed to notoriety.

then again, that might just be the way i try and deal with the fact that so many hacks get famous, but i have been thinking a lot about both statements.
