Well I suppose I shouldn't complain too much as I did get an hour's more sleep last night. So needless to say that means 2 1/2 hours last night versus the 1 1/2 the night before. My shoulders are on fire and arms throbbing. My back is screaming in every direction and I'm just tired. Thank you fibro for entering mine and so many others lives. How ( Read more... )

Thanks Sweetie. I'm so exhausted anymore. I just get a bad few days and can't hold back and have no where else to go but my friends here. I appreciate the kind words. Hugs.

I find it makes disability a lot easier to handle if I stay out of bed even though I feel fatigued, and then do creative things within my limitations. That means mostly computer stuff.

Nowadays I use a lot of commercial products in my work, but just before that I was using mostly the better stuff you can get free off the net. I know where to get various excellent commercial text fonts free and legally (donations to free software projects, promotionals, etc.), as well as good ‘freeware’ text fonts that aren’t commonly found on ‘free font’ servers (such as those associated with the TeX typesetting system).

I'm trying to learn just some basics as something I can do at home for entertainment. I've actually learned a little more from help fron friends but still have problems with some of the stuff here at live journal. but practice makes perfect I guess. For some reason though I haven't been able to post to fibromyalgia. I'll get the copy/paste down and then it doesn't go. And I really kind of meesed up sending it to chronic pain, I have no idea what I did there. I'm still pretty computer dumb.

Of course, I’m hinting that if you wanted to play with fonts there need be no initial investment. :) All the programs I use are free, though I suppose I have copies of ancient Photoshop lying around on CDs that came with my ‘new old stock’ scanners, if I wanted to use those on Windows (blechh).

Happy to receive "free" info on fonts. And yeah we have Windows but lucky on our budget to have that right now anyway. Send away, happy to know where to go. Thanks Barry.

I got really tired of shrink wrapped software and so a decade ago I got a Pentium box, put Slackware GNU/Linux on it, and stopped paying for programs. I already had Unix experience, though. Nowadays there are GNU/Linuxen such as SimplyMEPIS that don’t require much Unix knowledge (at least if you can get it pre-installed or install it without Windows self-destructing).

BTW all these OSes are smaller and much simpler than Windows, which is one of the reasons technerds prefer them. That’s the KISS doctrine. When I use Windows, which I do more and more rarely (I’m down to about once a year, just to install Windows updates), I literally go into a rage much of the time, sort of like Homer Simpson does in similar situations. (I might do it this year also to reduce the size of the Windows partition so I can use the freed-up disk space.)

I'm still such a newb on computers so Nicci does most of the installations and changes in software. But I'm trying to learn what I can and when she's off to college I won't be able to yell for help as easily. So I figure I'd best learn soon. I'll talk to her about this as God knows we can use more freed-up disk space between the two of us. Thanks Barry. Be Well.

Oh Hey gosh It's your Birthday too isn't it? Spaced that off. Happy Birthday!
Sending balloons and blowing horns!
Yeah I'll tell ya I still remember every moment of my 27 year old being a baby and crawling. Time truly flies. My other grandson is starting 3rd grade now. He's pretty cuddly too and I love it when he snuggles up and says "I love you grandma". Melts my heart. They are the greatest and love all my children so much. It would be such an empty world without them all.
Hope you had a good Birthday, sorry I spaced it. Be well and thanks for your kind words. Hugs, Deb

My doctor thinks that I have Fibro but I don't think that I do. I have awful back pain that is controlled by daily doses of Ultram, but I never get pain anywhere else other than my upper back, and I never have any problems with exhaustion, etc unless I am withdrawing from the medication.

I hope you feel better. I know that's not saying much but I am sure you have your good days too. I know a few people with Fibro and I can't even imagine what it must be like to live with that. My pain is under control with meds thankfully but without them I don't know what I would do.

*gentle hugs*

Thanks Sweetie. I have a few other conditions that don't help and pretty much worked this old body to death doing labor type jobs for the last 35 years. I never rested and just kept goinng even when I broke my kneecap (another story). Between the fibro and the cfs I never get enough rest and breakthru pain is almost a gimmie anymore. I should be used to it by now, but every day I'm optomistic that the next day will be better. Ususally not but I have my days that are hard and days that are not quite so hard. Just one day at a time anymore and try not to think the worst about tomorrow. Thanks for your caring words. Hugs, Deb
