Ninet Tayeb - Crazy (originally by Gnarls Barkley) Length: 3:24m Warnings: Show level violence Spoilers: Season 10 up to 10.02 Summary: "I remember when I lost my mind." A peek into demon!Dean's mind.
A/N: Huge thanks to the amazingly talented ash48 for the super quick, super detailed beta! I couldn’t hope for a better beta and trust me when I say you don’t want to watch an earlier version before her notes and suggestions. This vid is way out of my comfort zone, but it demanded to be created straight after I finished my 10.02 re-watch. I have so much to say about it, but I’d prefer it if you watch it first. More notes after the vid.
[Lyrics] I remember when I remember, I remember when I lost my mind There was something so pleasant about that phase Even your emotions had an echo And so much space Hmm mmmm
And when you're out there Without care Yeah I was out of touch But it wasn't because I didn't know enough I just knew too much Mmm
Does that make me crazy Does that make me crazy Does that make me crazy Probably
Come on now Who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are Ha ha ha! Bless your soul You really think you're in control
Well I think you're crazy I think you're crazy I think you're crazy Just like me
And I hope that you are having the time of your life But think twice That,s my only advice Hmm
Ever since I was little Ever since I was little it looked like fun And its no coincidence I've come And I can die when I'm done
Here's the thing: I don't like effects. I don't do effects. Premiere Pro which I use for editing isn't exactly the program of choice if you're looking for effects especially compared to Sony Vegas. I usually enjoy watching 'natural' vids more than ones that are heavily edited (with some exceptions). But… This vid developed a life of its own. Dean, the song and the story demanded it, and since I've been complaining that my muse is gone I really had no other choice but to shut up and do as they say.
I've been thinking a lot about Dean's current mind state and his demon/human status, and with this I tried to get into his head for a couple of minutes, see how it’s like down there. Well, apparently it's a complete chaos. (With effects!)
Personally, I believe that Dean is still there, buried deep, deep down. He's not 'fighting his demons' - they had obviously won - but more than once I saw tiny little moments of Dean, not the demon, struggling. I get the feeling that he almost has a death wish, knowing that even as a demon he can't completely get rid of that small voice in the back of his mind. This is what I tried to explore here, with the colored clips representing demon!Dean, the present and the dominant side, while the sepia speaks for Dean's memories and humanity, or what's left of it.
Alright, enough before this turns into a full meta post! I thought about waiting with this vid until Dean is cured (God yes, I miss Dean and he's creeping me out.) (No no no, more hot, dark demon!Dean!) but with Sam capturing him it looks like the end is near and I hope tonight we'll get a chance to get a real peek or at least hear from Dean how he really felt, but for now this is my head canon.
In the technical side this in no doubt is the most complicated vid I edited so far. The music is a little crazy even without the lyrics, and I tried to match the footage to that beat and embrace the madness with some fast paced clips. And fucking effects! Haha. At first I got carried away but thanks to ash48’s fantastic inputs I toned it down a little. I also learned a lot about sound editing while I worked on this, a combination of my usage of so many audios and voice overs, and the need to clean up the noise and the background music from the original clips to make it clear and audible.
Oh, and of course, the music: I'm a big fan of covers and mashups and I always like to vid to local artists. This song covers both, so yay! I trimmed the song a little, but if you liked this brilliant cover do check out the full version and watch the clip, because for the life of me I can't explain what's Red Band's deal is without showing it to you. Short version? It's a TV show, it's a rock band, they do covers, they're puppets, they're awesome. And From all the songs in the world they covered Jason Mann's Crazy Love (yup, the one with Jensen), even more reason to love them. Fair warning though, the cover is very different.
Alright, now that I’m finally done I can catch up with everything I missed in the last few days, starting now. Hope you enjoyed!
