On All Things Considered today they profiled a couple that makes 20 video biographies for people for a few thousand each. This sounds like a great idea to me. It ranks right up there with being in a design/art collective or being a traveling exorcist.

I wavered wildly between thinking it was absolutely wonderful and that it was a little weird.
The weird part is that the people are still alive, and it seems like something you should wait until you're dead to do. The egotism of it, maybe? Though it's usually someone else's idea, I guess. Either way, very American.
What I really like about it, though, is what I like about blogging. I love the times when people are able to look at a life from a different angle, and find a story. It's really special, I think, when you are truly able to understand another person's experience.

However, that doesn't take away from the fact that this would be a neat job. Frankly, since the technology is available widely nowadays I see no reason why more people shouldn't take advantage of it in any situation. Hell, how many people would love to see a nicely put-together package of their 21st birthday? After all, many people don't really remember it once it's gone...
