Word. I get approached a lot because of my dreadlocks. Most people are pretty cool about it, but there's always the douchbag who just walks up and starts touching them. Fuck, get away from my head!

Or the guys who sit down next to me on the train and start hitting on me, and not bother to notice whether I want to have a conversation or not (like the one who went so far as to PULL MY EARPHONE OUT OF MY FRIGGIN' EAR so I could hear him say his stupid shit).

And yet I am far too meek to just tell them off like you did. My first reaction is to smile. It's involuntary and ingrained and it feels almost like self-defense, and I hate it. Someday I won't have public anxiety and I can start throwing my shit around and let people know that my body and my space are not public domain. I'm working on it >.>
