“Hey Sammy, check it out.”
“What now?” His jealousy flared. He swore if Dean pointed out one more babe-
They were seated upon the hood of the Impala, waiting for their father to exit the library with answers to their hunt. They were parked next to a lakeside park, hence where Dean kept spotting all his brightly coloured eye candy.
“What one totally looks like a pirate ship.”
.... wait, what?
His curiosity peaked, Sam felt his annoyance evaporate in the heat.
Glancing up from the view of families throwing frisbees, Sam found his 19 year old brother extending his arm into the sky.
Following along the length of his arm, his eyes were soon searching the scattered clouds.
“I don’t see it.”
Dean gave him a look of disbelief. He thrust his fingers forward insistently. “Right there. There is that patch of cloud hanging in the middle of nowhere? Right beside it.”
Uhh ...
The boy gave a soft shrug. Almost immediately as his shoulders descended, Dean snagged his wrist.
Sam’s pulse skyrocketed; but like he was going to pull away.
Tugging until his arm was straight, Dean wrapped his fingers around the skin. From there, he slid two up and aligned them along Sam’s.
He was pretty sure he was watching and feeling that movement a little too much.
Then the elder shifted a bit closer and then raised their joined hands and pointed once more. “See? Well, it’s kinda shifted now. That second mast is a bit too round but still.”
Oh god, he couldn’t get his eyes off their hands long enough to even bother searching for a stupid pirate ship. It seemed so trivial at the moment.
He swallowed.
“Ohhh.” Sam replied, finally having token his eyes to where they were supposed to be. “Hey, yeah, that does kinda look like a ship. Except the back end is kinda ... non-existent.”
Dean grinned. He then started to move Sam’s hand to trace the clouds above. “Nahh, see, think of it like the ship is coming out of a cove. That there is the end and those could be ... waves or something.”
“What are you boys doing?” The familiar deep voice cut into Sam’s gentle little daydream.
“Cloud watching. Dean just found a ship.” Sam replied, figuring Dean probably wouldn’t want to mention something so, well, childish.
However, there was a moment where John looked up and seemed to try and find it but to no avail. That or he simply didn’t have anything to say about it. “Well, playtime’s over. Get in. We’ve got work to do.”
“Yes sir.” They both replied, the words rolled off their tongue as easy as hello.
Dean pulled back his hand (much to Sam’s reluctance) and flexed his fingers a moment. Then he reached over and wrapped an arm around the teen’s neck in a rather firm headlock. There was tug that yanked him off the hood and Sam nearly stumbled trying to find his feet.
The laughter that sounded with Sam’s protest struck deep within his still small frame.
It was so hard to read someone who turned everything into a joke.
That had been a real moment there; Sam hadn’t just been imagining it ... right?
