We'll toss this under a cut ... it's going to be long.
Day one was Madison, WI. Made wonderful time, no traffic anywhere to slow me down. Arrived at the hotel at about 1:15 ... only to find out that check in wasn't until 3. Bleh. So I drove around Madison for a little bit, zipped through the parking lot of the venue to see how many people had arrived, found about thirty. Headed back to the hotel, checked in ... to find my room had a freakin' whirlpool in it. Yeah, because I was going to have a chance to use that sucker. Changed, shoved the disposable camera down my pants, and made my way back to the venue.
Waited. And waited. And waited some more. Had a few random conversations, nothing thrilling, received a few compliments on my shoes[the neon green Converse], squinted for awhile seeing as I had left my sunglasses at the hotel, stretched out on the sidewalk and considered a nap, played with my cell phone ... and waited some more. The sky decided to spit on us for a few minutes, and then finally they opened the doors. Brief pat down and I was in. Camera in crotch. No wonder guys are constantly fidgeting with themselves ... it's not very comfortable to have something there. When I got inside the loudspeaker was blaring Time Bomb ... had been listening to Rancid on the drive, was almost feeling like I had never left the car. Especially when they told us to sit on the floor. Ack. No more sitting. Cue Dancing With Myself, I Love Rock N Roll, Mickey, I Fought The Law, Our Lips Are Sealed ... and a few other songs. Security let us stand and it was a mad rush for the stage. Was on Jason's side at that point, about fifteen people back.
MCR took the stage eventually and when they finished I was soaked with sweat. Out of the pit I go, must have a cigarette and there's no freaking room to have one in there. Found a less ... sweaty ... spot toward the back of the floor to enjoy Green Day. The kid who was picked to play guitar for Knowledge crowd surfed from the balcony just behind me to the stage. As he was being carried to the stage, Billie said, "If you haven't gotten laid before tonight, kid, you will now!" which amused me greatly. He received a kiss, of course, and then he shrieked like a little girl when Billie told him he to keep the guitar.
Show was amazing, not that I expected any less. It impresses me how Billie works the crowd into a sweaty, shoving, screaming frenzy one second and the next has them swaying, arms above heads, as they sing the chorus to Are We The Waiting like some tripped out choir.
And now that I've typed all that, realized that was just day one, wandered away, came back and uploaded some pictures ... I've decided that I'm not going to bore you guys with much more of my rambling. Not that anyone actually read all that.
Instead, I'm going to post some pictures. And a little story.
Now, the question is .. to cut, or not to cut?
I'm opting for not right now, because honestly ... why would I want to hide all this loveliness under a cut?
If you'd prefer me to add a cut later, I can ... just let me know.
OMFG IT'S GREEN DAY!!!!
So last night the show gets out, I head up to my room and snag my camera and hoodie and hop it on over to the buses. There's about fifteen other people wandering around over there, trying to see through the blinds on the buses and other such fanlike goofiness. I start chain smoking, chanting in my head, "Last chance, last chance, last chance." Beeping of trucks backing up, random traffic noise, and squeeling here and there ... I got bored fast. Struck up a conversation with a chick who looked like she'd been hit by one of those trucks or buses ... had spent the whole concert in the pit. She told me that out of all the venues she'd been to, this was the best for meeting bands because they had to cross this little side street between the building and where the buses were parked. My hopes were raised quite a bit with that little tidbit. We chatted, and then ... here comes Tre with his tie around his head and a cup in his hand. Some shouting ensued, he hushed everyone and grinned, saying, "I'll be right back." Ooooooooh yeah! Finally! Mike followed soon after with his lovely now-black hair, and then Billie with his red beanie.
Failed to get a shot of Tre with the tie around his head ... but I assume the rest of these will please you guys:
This trip was honestly the most amazing experience ever. I had more fun these 4 days on the road alone than I've had in a long time. Which may sound sad, but really just means that I'm good company for myself, which is a good thing.
Off to pick up more pictures at Walgreens!
