There are certain tenements of the samurai way of life that go without question. First is respect; a samurai respects the world in which he lives, its rules and its ways. He respects life and doesn't take it unneedfully. He respects his master, and gives him the obedience he is owed. He respects his teachers and never forgets the bond of gratitude he owes. Last, but not least of all, he respects the tools of his craft, the sword that is almost an extension of himself. He respects his weapon through the care of it, cleaning it after every use, and maintaining it in good condition. He reveres it as a dangerous weapon and does not treat it lightly.
Most importantly of all, he does not stick it into a bookcase and use it as a hanger for his haori while he lies around reading every book he can get his hands on.
That said, there is an apprentice samurai currently in the library, lying around on the floor surrounded by a pile of books, sword doing double duty as a coat hanger.
