MAHER: But that's a different show and a different discussion. I want to - I want to bring up the Barbara Bush quote. I don't know if you heard this, but the president's mother - and I tell you, the moron doesn't fall far from the tree - the president's mother - and this - I brought this up last week, I said, you know, there's a syndrome called “U.R.,” which is “unintentional racism.” A lot of people are racists and they don't know it.
This is what Barbara Bush said - and by the way, this is on-camera. It sounds like something you get caught saying off-camera. She was talking about the fact that there are a lot of people - the poor people from New Orleans are coming into Texas now. They're refugees. And she said, “What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas.” “And so many of the people in the arena” - you know, they're in the Astrodome - “were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.”
I mean, Marie Antoinette could not have said it better. But, listen, lest you think she's a heartless queen like Marie Antoinette-
- she sent a card - kind of a Hallmark card - to some of these poor people. And I want to show you what it is. And then some of the other members of the administration followed suit. I mean, here's Barbara Bush's card- [he reads card]
“Heard you were a little under the poverty level…Get welfare soon.”
This one, this is from Mike Brown himself. It says, “Hey, I hear there was some kind of tornado or something.” “Sorry I missed your evacuation.”
This one is sweet. I love this one. “Thinking of you in our time of greed….Halliburton.”
This one is also charming. “I have a problem with leaks, too…Karl Rove.”
Oh, this is one of my favorites. Look at this. This is from Laura Bush. “Looking forward to a frozen, awkward hug soon.”
Oh, and this is also from Mike Brown at FEMA. Look at this one. “You think it takes forever for FEMA to come…You should meet my wife.”
TUCKER: Ohhhhh-oooh.
MAHER: And now she turns on me ....
